Man sentenced to 60 years for murder in 2022 shooting on Vassar Avenue

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. - A judge sentenced 24-year-old Mikail Martinez to 60 years in prison for the shooting death of Lawrence Witzke in November 2022, according to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.

Martinez was charged with the following:

Murder – sentencing of 50 years
Battery resulting in moderate bodily injury – sentencing of one year
Resisting law enforcement – sentencing of one year
Felony firearm enhancement – sentencing of 10 years

The sentences for murder, battery and resisting law enforcement will be served concurrently.

On November 11, 2022, Martinez allegedly shot Witzke during an altercation about a wallet, according to police reports.
