Man shot in the head near Providence in Michigan City

Michigan City Police responded to a home on Salem Street Tuesday afternoon for reports of a man who had been shot.

When they arrived around 3 p.m., officers located a man with a gunshot wound to the head.

The victim told police he was shot while in the 1100 block of Providence. The victim's vehicle was also damaged by gunfire.

EMS transported the victim to the hospital for treatment.

At the scene of the shooting on Providence, police recovered evidence and spoke with witnesses.

During the investigation, police developed a person of interest and the person of interest was detained after showing up at the police station.

The victim remains hospitalized but is stable.
