Man who held hostages, fired at officers in Mishawaka, found guilty on 14 counts

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- A man involved in a 2025 hostage situation has been convicted of 14 felonies.

Chad Bean was convicted of five counts of Criminal Confinement, six counts of Attempted Murder, two counts of Stalking, and one count of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon.

The incident happened in December 2025. Multiple departments responded to a home in Mishawaka to rescue five hostages, including children. 

Bean shot at officers at the scene; an investigation shows Bean fired his gun 15 times. The officers returned fire, and Bean was hit. The shooting was later ruled to be justified.

He will be sentenced September 21.
