UPDATE: Driver arrested after striking Marshall County deputy's vehicle Monday morning
Marshall County Sheriff\'s Department UPDATE: The Indiana State Police reports on Monday at around 7:30 a.m., a Marshall County sheriff's deputy was working a crash on US 31 near 13th Road when his fully marked vehicle was struck while parked near the inside shoulder.
The deputy's emergency lights were on at the time.
The report states a gold Chevrolet van, driven by 30-year-old Carlos Alexis Flores Hernandez of Peru, Ind., lost control while traveling north before it sideswiped the left side of the deputy's vehicle.
The deputy was inside his vehicle when it was struck.
The deputy was taken to the hospital to be evaluated.
Police say Flores Hernandez didn't have a driver’s license and was arrested by Marshall County deputies.
ISP noted at the time of the crash, the area was experiencing lake effect snow that made roads slick, requiring reduced speeds.
Indiana requires drivers to move over or slow down for stationary emergency vehicles, recovery vehicles, utility vehicles, solid waste haulers, highway maintenance vehicles, and disabled vehicles displaying flashing hazard lights.
