Mayor Pete names new Chief of Staff

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Mayor Pete Buttigieg named Laura O’Sullivan as his Chief of Staff on Thursday.

The mayor announced O’Sullivan as Chief starting October 2nd.

O’Sullivan most recently served at the University of Notre Dame as Director of Athletic Events and Stewardship.

Mayor Pete stated “Laura will be a great addition to our City leadership team. Her extensive experience and success in the South Bend community will ensure a smooth transition within my administration as we continue t o create a thriving and inclusive City.”

O’Sullivan also served as Director of Development and Executive Director of the SMC Foundation at Southwestern Michigan College, as well as serving as the Executive Director for the Northern Indiana March of Dimes.

O’Sullivan graduated from Purdue University in 1993 and has since served as citizen member of the South Bend Common Council Parks and Recreation Committee, Trustee of the South Bend Awesome Fund, a member of the Saint Joseph High School Annual Fund Leadership Committee, and as a member of the League of Women Voters of the South Bend area.

When addressing her new position O’Sullivan said, “As a third generation native of South Bend, I am deeply committed to the ongoing revival and continuous improvement of this great city. South Bend not only represents my family’s history, but also its future and the prospect of all families in our community. Mayor Buttigieg’s administration is dedicated to the betterment of each and every citizen and I am thrilled to help advance this vision, serving the city that I love.”

Angela Kouters, the Interim Chief of Staff will remain in the Mayor’s Office in a part time capacity focusing on strategic planning and operations once Laura O’Sullivan takes over the position on October 2nd.
