ELKHART, Ind. -- Elkhart Mayor Rod Roberson shared the city’s plan for the 2025 budget Monday afternoon at a news conference at Walker Park before the plan was presented to the council.
The proposed $125.7 million-dollar budget is linked to the four pillars of the city’s “ASPIRE” plan, which are public safety, infrastructure, neighborhoods, and quality of place.
The mayor says the budget would still leave the city $2 million dollars in revenue for the year, but would bring needed upgrades to parks, roads, and police and fire stations.
“I’m giddy because we’ve never taken the approach in a strategic way to ensure that the type of strategies that we’d like to share with our citizens we are also taking responsibility and accountability and ensuring that their tax dollars are used appropriately to deliver on that vision,” said Roberson.
All things he believes are essential to support the future of a growing Elkhart.
The council will have the final say October 21st, after working with the city through a number of hearings.
