Medical helicopter coverage of southwest Michigan changing

Over the holiday weekend medical helicopters from South Bend continued serving southwest Michigan despite a new rule that threatened to halt the service.
The rule stopped flights from crossing state lines, although that has been happening for several years.
The next closest air-medical services for southwest Michigan residents would have been Kalamazoo which can take up to 45 minutes to get to a scene.
A permanent solution is currently in the works.
