Metro Homicide investigating shooting at Beacon Heights Apartments
SOUTH BEND, Ind.- Metro Homicide is investigating a shooting on Saturday morning.
South Bend Police officers were called to the 3700 block of Curtiss Drive North around 3:53 a.m. According to the press release, the initial call was in regards to gunshots being fired and an individual lying on the ground.
According to officials, a male juvenile was injured and transported to the hospital where they were later pronounced deceased.
Police say when they arrived at the scene, there were approximately 50-70 people in the vicinity of the shooting. Most of them were teenagers.
Officials say that officers attempted to perform CPR on the victim, but they were hindered by the large crown of people, many of them having been intoxicated. Fights were also breaking out among the crowd of people.
Paramedics were also hindered in entering the location and had to be escorted by police.
A chemical irritant had to be deployed so that police and medics could reach the victim.
According to a press release, potential witnesses at the scene of the shooting were not forthcoming with information.
There is no one in custody and there is no suspect at this time.
The identity of the juvenile victim has not been released. An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday, June 15th in Fort Wayne.
