Storms arriving early this morning
While some showers did make their way back into Michiana Thursday, storms stayed away from Saint Joseph County, Michigan.
It's a welcome reprieve from the seemingly endless severe weather season that most recently brought an EF-2 tornado near Three Rivers last Tuesday.
Michigan has had 20 reports of tornadoes so far in 2024. That is well-above the yearly normal of 13. At least seven of those reports come from Michiana counties in southwest Michigan.
Indiana has had more than 50 tornado reports so far this year. The Hoosier State has seen more than double the average number of tornadoes with still some of severe weather season to get through. Four of those reports come from Michiana counties.
There could be more severe weather on Friday, with a round of strong storms possible both in the morning and late in the evening. Stay tuned to the ABC57 First Warning Neighborhood Weather Team for the latest forecast.
