Michiana remembers Jackie Walorski three years after her tragic passing
SAINT JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Michiana is remembering former U.S. Congresswoman Jackie Walorski who tragically lost her life on August 3rd three years ago alongside two of her staff members Zachery Potts and Emma Thomson in a deadly crash on State Road 19 near Nappanee.
The driver of the other vehicle involved, Edith Schmucker, died as well.
Walorski represented Indiana's second congressional district for 10 years, from 2012-2022.
Her colleagues and constituents remember her as a dedicated and influential figure in politics, known for her strong voice for veterans and active stance in the pro-life movement.
Congressman Rudy Yakym, who was sworn in following Walorski's passing, posting a statement to Facebook Sunday in her honor:
"Today marks three years since the passing of my dear friend Jackie Walorski. I’m reflecting on her life, legacy, and the impact she had on everyone who knew her. Jackie was a friend, mentor, and fierce advocate for Hoosiers and Indiana’s Second District. Her passion, integrity, and heart for service inspire me daily."
Walorski was 58 years old.
