Michiana Spring Clay Tour highlights local pottery community May 24

GOSHEN, Ind. --- This Saturday, over 15 regional clay studios will provide an up-close look at artists, gifts, and more during the Michiana Spring Clay Tour.

Starting at 10 a.m., local ceramic artists will open their studios for the general public to learning about northern Indiana and southwest Michigan’s ceramic tradition.

"Visitors can expect to enjoy up-close experiences with artists at each location, where they will provide demonstrations and engage in conversations about their studio practices," organizers said.

"In tandem with the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, shoppers will find great gift ideas for graduations, Father’s Day, and more."

The new event was built on the back of the success of Northern Indiana Clay Alliance's (NICA) other annual events such as the Michiana Pottery Tour in September.

The NICA claims over 150 members as part of its organization, which "strives to support ceramic artists and build on the 200+ year tradition of clay in our region."

“The new Spring Clay Tour provides our member artists, both up-and-coming and well-established, the opportunity to welcome the general public to their home studios for a memorable experience," an NICA spokesperson said.

"Northern Indiana and Southwest Michigan are home to some of the country’s most prolific clay artists, and we’re excited to bring our neighbors into these creative spaces.”

Interested parties can find maps, artist biographies, and more information on the event's website

No tickets are require, and, while most locations will close at 2 p.m., some may have extended hours.

The event is presented by the Elkhart County Visitors Bureau.
