Michiana groups launch new job search website
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The City of South Bend, Goodwill Industries of Michiana, and several other regional partners have teamed up to create the Jobs Progress initiative, which aims to bring jobs to people facing unemployment or reduced hours. The new website will provide up-to-date listings of employers in the greater South Bend region that are hiring.
The site, www.jobsprogress.com, was launched on Friday, May 1st, and was developed by New York-based Yext for free.
Employers will be listed on the site if they are within roughly 35 miles of South Bend, meet the criteria for being an essential business, and is actively hiring.
“We know that the coronavirus pandemic has impacted workers and families in our region, many of whom face uncertainty about if or when they can return to work,” said South Bend Mayor James Mueller. “During these tough economic conditions there are employers actively hiring, and there will be more as the economy re-opens. This initiative is about helping our community find work more easily, now and into our recovery.”
There are more than 140 employers on the site and any employer that is hiring is encouraged to add their job listings.
“Goodwill's mission to empower our community through education, training and job placement fits perfectly with this initiative.” said Debie Coble, President and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Michiana. “We are pleased to partner with the city as we re-open businesses throughout Michiana.”
The partnership to create and support this initiative includes the City of South Bend, Goodwill Industries of Michiana, WorkOne Northern Indiana, the South Bend Regional Chamber, Ivy Tech Community College, and the South Bend Elkhart Regional Partnership.
