Michigan Blood offering incentive for donations this holiday

This Christmas, the Michigan Blood Center is offering the opportunity to be a gift to someone in need. Starting Wednesday the organization is offering a perk for donating - a $10 dollar Amazon gift card.

Organizers say it's their way of showing appreciation for donors. And getting more to come out.

During the winter, and especially during the holiday season, donation numbers drop. But the amount of families in need doesn't.

"The holidays are a time for family and giving," said Alicia Barry with Michigan Blood. "But many families across the state of Michigan need just one gift. We are hoping that children can be with their families."

The campaign runs until Friday. It will take a break for the holiday and then run again from the 30th to New Years.

Anyone over 17 can donate, as long as they pass a health screening. Michigan Blood estimates it only takes an hour.
