Michigan City approves new MCON workforce initiatives

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- On Monday, the Michigan City Board of Public Works approved Mayor Deuitch's proposal for a new workforce initiative and its first program, providing summer work opportunities for high school students.

This upcoming Summer Ambassador and Internship Pilot Program is part of Michigan City's new workforce initiative, the Michigan City Opportunity Network, or MCON, which is planned to serve as the City's official umbrella for workforce programs.

The Summer Ambassador and Internship Pilot Program, funded by Mayor Deuitch's third Charitable Gala, is planned to focus on providing work opportunities for high school students and re-entry participants.

In addition to this program, MCON will also encompass several other workforce programs, including:

  • Summer Internship Program
  • Indiana Plan Pre-Apprenticeship Program
  • IEDC Micro-Internship Program
  • Entrepreneurship Boot Camp
  • Senior workforce placements through the City’s partnership with VANTAGE Aging
  • Additional long-term career pathway initiatives
