Michigan City man arrested for being serious violent felon in possession of firearm
MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. - A Michigan City resident was arrested during a traffic stop on Sunday for being a serious violent felon in possession of a firearm, according to the Michigan City Police Department.
At 1:10 a.m., officers were on patrol when they saw a Dodge Challenger commit multiple traffic violations on the north side of the city, reports said.
Officers initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as 31-year-old Devon Todd.
During the stop, officers found probable cause that allowed them to search the vehicle. While searching, police found a loaded handgun near where Todd was sitting.
Officers then learned Todd was prohibited from having a handgun in his possession.
Todd was then arrested on the charge of serious violent felon in possession of a firearm.
He is being held at the La Porte County Jail on a $25,005 cash bond.
