Michigan City reopens beginning June 28

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. – The City of Michigan City announced today that, effective Monday, June 28, the city will return to near normal conditions for the first time in 15 months.

Fully vaccinated individuals can stop wearing masks except in places where the federal government or businesses and workplaces require it.

Those who are not fully vaccinated are asked to continue to wear a mask in crowded areas and around youth who aren’t yet eligible for the vaccine.

People who are immunocompromised are recommended to continue wearing a mask in areas where other people might not be fully vaccinated.

Businesses and workplaces can still require masks if they choose.

All restaurants and businesses can reopen with no restrictions.

Large events and gatherings, like festivals, weddings, and church services, can return.

The city’s Lakefront and zoo are also fully open.

Anyone interested in getting the COVID-19 vaccine can contact HealthLinc in Michigan City at 219-872-6200, visit the Our Shot website, or call 211.
