Police notifiy Michigan City school officials of deadly shooting in the area, suspect still at-large

LAPORTE COUNTY, Ind. – Officers were called to a report of multiple gunshots, close to Michigan City schools Tuesday afternoon.

On Dec. 18 at approximately 12:53 p.m., authorities reported to the 200 block of Karwick Road.

Arriving officers discovered the victim, 18-year-old Dareon Brown, with life-threatening injuries.

Brown was taken to Franciscan Hospital in a private vehicle where he was pronounced deceased, police say.

Next of kin has been notified.

Authorities are pursuing the suspect-at-large with the assistance of statements from witnesses.

Michigan City area schools were notified of the situation and the suspect-at-large, police say.
