LAPORTE COUNTY, Ind. – Michigan City Mayor Ron Meer will announce a new Police Chief for the city on Tuesday.

This new assignment comes after Michigan City’s previous Police Chief resigned on October 22.

Chief Mark Swistek said his resignation was a result of Meer withdrawing the department from the LaPorte County Drug Task Force.

“Without any drug enforcement, Michigan City will be less safe to live and a more dangerous place for law enforcement to work,” Swistek said in part.

The press conference to introduce the new Michigan City Police Chief will take place at 1 p.m. in the lower level of City Hall.

Meer told the police to withdraw from the La Porte County Drug Task Force. Does this have anything to do with his own son recently being arrested for drugs? Meer needs to resign. He is an embarrassment to Michigan City. If he needs a job, he can go back to working in the sewers.
