Michigan City to announce a new police chief for the city

LAPORTE COUNTY, Ind. – Michigan City Mayor Ron Meer will announce a new Police Chief for the city on Tuesday.

This new assignment comes after Michigan City’s previous Police Chief resigned on October 22.

Chief Mark Swistek said his resignation was a result of Meer withdrawing the department from the LaPorte County Drug Task Force.

“Without any drug enforcement, Michigan City will be less safe to live and a more dangerous place for law enforcement to work,” Swistek said in part.

The press conference to introduce the new Michigan City Police Chief will take place at 1 p.m. in the lower level of City Hall.
