Michigan farmer cited for oversized political signs

GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A Michigan Farmer using his large tractor trailers as political signs won't be signing off anytime soon.

A Kent County judge dismissed a citation today that tried ordering him to take them down.

A Gaines Township ordinance limits political signs to 20 feet. The signs on Vern Verdine's trailers are much bigger than that.

The judge declared it unconstitutional, saying it's not tailored enough.

Verdine's lawyer hopes the case will encourage other townships to review their ordinances to make them clearer.
