Michigan missionaries die in Haiti

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- A West Michigan Catholic parish is mourning the death of four people who were killed on a mission trip.

The victims were killed when their car went off a mountain on a steep road in Haiti. The group of 18 missionaries arrived in Haiti just two days ago to provide medical and dental assistance to the locals. Back home in Grand Rapids, the parish is stunned.

"Like anyone who's ever gone on a trip to Haiti, on a mountain, it's not paved roads, it's just gravel roads. It's not even that. It's pretty rough," said Father John Vallier, of Holy Spirit Parish.

Arrangements are underway to get the rest of the parish back to Michigan.
