Michigan receives first shipment of COVID-19 oral medications

The State of Michigan has received its first shipment of two oral medications intended to treat COVID-19, the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services announced.

The medications, paxlovid and molnupiravir, were recently granted emergency use authorization by the FDA.

The antiviral medications are designed for outpatient treatment in mild to moderate COVID-19 cases. Both must be prescribed to a patient by physicians, physician assistants, and advanced practice registered nurses.

Because the state has a limited supply of these drugs, MDHHS has issued eligibility criteria for receiving them.

Criteria will remain in effect until supply of the drugs can meet the demand.
