Michigan State Police regionalize police posts

MICHIGAN -- On Monday, Michigan State Police announced that they will soon be operating under a new regional system.

The number of state posts will drop from 62 to 29. Police say the closures are needed to meet a $17-million budget cut.

Niles will become the home base for southwest Michigan.

Bridgman is scheduled to close on Saturday. Troopers will still be able to use the building for storage.

The entire change over is expected to be done by the end of the month.
