Michigan's Longest Garage Sale attracts hundreds Friday

Michigan’s Longest Garage Sale is happening across the state beginning today so U.S. 12 will be busy with bargain hunters through Sunday.

“I’ll give you $5 for this is they can load it up,” said one bargainer.

One of the largest garage sales in the Midwest stretches from New Buffalo to Detroit, and has these Michiganders ready to make some money.

“We got up at 6:30,” said Sharon Griffin.

Sharon joins her siblings from Michigan every year to their spot on the corner of lane road and U.S. 12 in Edwardsburg.

“My sister’s in Edwardsburg, I come from Lake Orion Michigan and my other brother comes from Livonia,” said Griffin.

Altogether, they set up shop with ten different tents and over 25 tables. Not to mention all the furniture spread across the yard.

“You name it you can find it here. We’ve got a roller, we’ve got.. there was a break front over there. Just lots and lots and lots of different things,” said Griffin.

And that’s just the start of what they’re selling this weekend.

“Pretzels, tomorrow we’re gonna be selling snow cones and popcorn. There’s some chips and there’s a combo you can get that has like chips a drink and a hot dog,” said 13-year-old James Wegner, a co-owner of the hot dog stand at the sale.

Because, well, there’s no reason not to.

“You know what, we make it fun basically. Because we all work together two or three days ahead of time and unpack and price things and get it all set up for everybody,” said Griffin.

Just make sure to be on the lookout for heavy traffic in these areas due to those visiting the sales throughout the weekend.
