Mishawaka firefighter fired over EMT test

A Mishawaka firefighter has been fired in connection with an investigation into firefighters allegedly cheating on a training test.

The investigation started after an instructor handed out an answer sheet along with the EMT test given by St. Joseph County.

According to the minutes of the Board of Public Works and Safety meeting from December 10, firefighter Travis Sears was fired.

Sears was accused of a violation of rules, immoral conduct and conduct unbecoming an officer.

ABC57 reached out to the Mishawaka fire chief but so far have not heard back.

We contacted Mayor Dave Wood for comment and he stated:

"We are investigating the cheating incident, it is an ongoing personnel matter and I can’t comment on it at this time."
