Mishawaka house heavily damaged by fire early Thursday

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- A house on West 5th Street in Mishawaka caught fire just before 3 a.m. Thursday.

Firefighters say they believe the fire started in the upper floor of the home.

Two men were inside the home at the time of the fire.

One was taken to the hospital, the other escaped without injury.

Firefighters found one of the two cats safe, but have not located the second cat.

"I lived here for 5-years you know I don't know what I'm going to do right now. I really don't," said resident Drake Stouffer.

Red Cross will be assisting the homeowner with a place to stay.

Firefighters are trying to determine just how the fire started.
