Mishawaka officer shoots dog while responding to call

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- An officer shot a dog while responding to a call about a domestic incident Thursday morning, according to Mishawaka Police.

Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of E. Grove Street just before 11 a.m. for reports of an unwanted person.

A woman reported her ex-boyfriend was at her home cutting up her clothing.

When officers arrived, they  noticed the ex-boyfriend's car was in the driveway, so they parked down the street.

While walking towards the residence, a large dog charged one of the officers, police said.

The officer shot the dog to stop the attack, police said.

The dog suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported by the Humane Society to be treated.
