Mishawaka Police: Center turn lane misuse causing accidents on Douglas Road

MISHAWAKA, Ind. – Mishawaka Police took to Facebook Tuesday to remind drives about using center turn lanes for turns only.

Eastbound Douglas Road is restricted to one lane due to construction near Grape Road and its causing traffic backups.

In the video, MPD said drivers needing to turn left at the intersection of Douglas and Grape are not using the center lane for just turns.

“We’re getting a lot of people who are driving down this lane as a main travel lane which is actually causing accidents,” said Jeffery Price, MPD officer.

Price said officers encourage drivers to avoid using the center turn lane or the area all together.

He suggested finding an alternative route by taking State Road 23 south to Edison Road or north to Cleveland Road.

If you are caught using the center lane for main travel, you could be ticketed.
