MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- The City of Mishawaka and Mishawaka Utilities announced its electric division is sending a crew of five team members and two utility trucks as part of a mutual aid effort to assist in the response to Hurricane Helene.

Officials say the crew will be staged in Valdosta, Ga., before being deployed to areas in Florida expected to be impacted by the storm.

The team will help in restoring power and infrastructure in the aftermath of the hurricane, ensuring those affected can return to normalcy as quickly as possible.

"The City of Mishawaka takes great pride in our dedicated utility crews. Their willingness to step up during times of crisis is a testament to their professionalism, skill, and commitment to serving others,” said Mayor Dave Wood. “We wish them a safe journey and thank them for representing Mishawaka with excellence as they head south to support the recovery efforts."

Indiana Michigan Power says it is sending a total of 180 employees and contractors along with 40 vehicles from their coverage area to assist in Georgia Power.

“We know firsthand how much mutual assistance is appreciated when we have storms that impact our customers. That’s why we are proud to safely return the support when other communities and power companies need it the most,” I&M’s Manager of Distribution System for Michigan districts, Donny Williams said.

“While it’s hard for us to leave home, we know helping turn the lights back on for impacted neighborhoods along with the messages of gratitude and support we receive makes it worth the effort.”
