Money stolen from Elkhart County Trustee

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. – The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after money was stolen from the Elkhart County Trustee’s bank account.

On Wednesday, the Elkhart County Auditor reported that between February 15 and March 15 of this year, phone calls were made and emails were sent to her office requesting to switch bank accounts for the Elkhart County Trustee.

The phone calls and emails were not from the Trustee but the banking routing numbers were changed by an employee.

A check for $14,844.83 was also direct deposited into the fake account.
