NOW: More artistic installations planned throughout South Bend

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – The South Bend Venues Parks and Arts is working to revive some areas around the city.

They're are collaborating with local artists to improve Pier Park in downtown South Bend. The revitalization of the park is just one of three projects the South Bend Venues Parks and Arts are trying to bring back to life

There are three different artistic installations projects, located along the St. Joseph river in the works. It’s all part of the My South Bend Parks and Trails initiative.

South Bend Venues Parks and Arts executive director Aaron Perri said the infinity tunnel and immersive sound at Pier Park is the first project. After that, they plan to add river lights on the south side of Jefferson bridge to match the northside of the bridge. The last project, is for Plaza Park. Perri said its a surprise project for the community, hinting it will be an interactive installation and another another lighted feature.

Perri said these installations are part of a bigger plan for South Bend. “We’ll have all of this open to the public to enjoy. All three installations. And this is part of the long-term plan to restore the network of trails that go through this side of the river,” Perri said. “ Unfortunately, they were damaged in the floods a couple of years ago. We have yet to identify the funding to be able to do those, but in the meantime, we wanted to do something that helps rebuild the area back up.”

All three of these projects are expected to be completed and open to the public sometime in the summer.
