SOUTH BEND, Ind.-- Since its creation in 2020, after tent encampments began popping up around South Bend, Motels 4 Now has taken more than 700 people off the streets.
In a press conference Tuesday morning the program, that has now grown into its own non-profit, “New Day,” announced of those 700, 592 have been able to transition to stable housing.
They are now asking for the community's help in housing the chronically homeless in a brand new 120 bed, purpose built, low-barrier shelter.
The shelter welcomes everyone including those struggling with addiction, severe mental illness, and with pets that would be turned away from other shelters.
New Day has already raised $9.8 million of their $18.8 million goal for the facility.
This giving season, they are asking for donations on their website.
