Mother faces charges related to 2-year-old's death

PLYMOUTH, Ind. -

The mother of 2-year-old Serenity Wilson, who died over the weekend, is now facing charges related to her death.

Krysti LaVanway is facing one count of neglect of a dependent resulting in death.

Friday afternoon, Plymouth Police were called to the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth when Wilson was brought in unconscious, with a serious head injury.

Wilson was in critical condition and flown by helicopter to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Plymouth Police learned Shane Weedling had been caring for the child at the time.

On September 19, Wilson died at the hospital. An autopsy is pending.

Weedling was interviewed and booked on a charge of neglect of a dependent and possession of marijuana.

On Monday, Wilson's mother, Krysti LaVanway, was charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death.
