A South Bend mother looking to protect her daughter during a brawl is speaking out after being captured on video in the middle of that fight on a South Bend school bus.

“My intentions was to go down there to talk to the bus driver and let him know what was going on,” said the mother.

This fight was posted online by a student showing the mother and her daughter involved in the fight with another student. The mother who was involved in the fight didn’t want to show her face but says there’s more to that video than meets the eye.

“I was trying to contact the parents, the mother. She didn’t want to talk to me, she blocked me, ignored me,” said

She says her 11-year-old daughter had been receiving threats prior to the incident.

“She had screenshots of this little girl threatening her,” she said.

For legal reasons, the mother chose not to share those screenshots. She says after she read those messages though she decided to walk her daughter to the bus stop herself  but got a bad feeling from what she saw.

“When we were even walking towards the bus, all the kids were standing at the front of the bus, so I felt everybody knew what was going on,” she said.

She says she wanted to notify the bus driver as soon as her daughter was on the bus safely.

“I let the children on the bus but as soon as my daughter got on the bus, the little girl attacked her,” she said.

When she looked over and saw that the bus driver didn’t react she says she jumped on and tried to split the girls up.

“They was fighting and he didn’t do nothing about it so of course me being a mother, I got on the bus to protect my 11-year-old daughter. I was trying to break the fight up and the little girl hit me in my face,” said the mother.

She says that’s when the video was captured and she contacted South Bend schools but feels like nothing is being done.

“Contacted them, they haven’t done nothing, downtown hasn’t done nothing, the schools haven’t done nothing, what more can I do,” she said.

After a statement was made, the mother asked to clarify that she did not threaten the other teen referencing using a gun to harm her.

According to South Bend Schools, South Bend Police were contacted after the incident and are currently handling the investigation.

As we mentioned before, South Bend schools have not responded to our requests for comment.
