Motorcyclist arrested after allegedly fleeing police

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- A motorcyclist was arrested after allegedly fleeing from a police early Tuesday morning, according to Michigan City Police.

Around 3:30 a.m., an officer spotted a motorcycle traveling west on E. 10th Street without a license plate.

Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the motorcycle, but the driver did not stop, police said.

The motorcyclist drove away from police but fell off the motorcycle at W. 8th Street and Grant Avenue.

Police said he ran away from the scene, but was located behind a garage in the 200 block of Grant Avenue.

The man, identified as 48-year-old John Lowry, was taken into custody. Police said he had narcotics and drug paraphernalia in his possession at the time of his arrest.

He is facing preliminary charges of dealing methamphetamine, resisting law enforcement-fleeing from law enforcement with a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of a syringe, resisting law enforcement-fleeing from a law enforcement officer and possession of marijuana-prior conviction.
