Motorcyclist dies after chain-reaction crash near construction zone

LAGRANGE COUNTY, Ind. -- Indiana State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving five vehicles.
ISP Troopers responded to a crash on U.S. 20 near C.R. 350 West around 2:45 p.m. Wednesday. Their investigation shows construction work in the area had slowed traffic down to a stop. A silver Kia was stopped on U.S. 20 heading westbound. Behind the Kia, a blue Harley Davidson motorcycle stopped, with a maroon Chrysler also behind the motorcycle.
While they were stopped, a semi tractor trailer heading westbound allegedly did not stop and crashed into the Chrysler, pushing it into the Harley Davison motorcycle. The Chrysler was also pushed into oncoming traffic, hitting a white Chevrolet pick-up truck.
The man driving the motorcycle, identified as 67-year-old David Zinkie of LaGrange, was seriously injured and had to be airlifted to the hospital.
He died from his injuries shortly after arriving.
The driver of the Chrysler and the driver of the Chevrolet pick-up truck were also injured. They were transported to local hospitals where they were treated and released.
The crash remains under investigation by the Indiana State Police.
