UPDATE: Motorcyclist in early morning crash confirmed dead, identified

UPDATE: On Thursday evening, St. Joseph County authorities confirmed that the driver of the motorcycle, now identified as 34-year-old Lonnie Martin, of Osceola, was killed in the crash.

"When officers arrived, they found that the driver of the motorcycle was deceased," authorities said.

The St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team (FACT) was activated, as is protocol.

"Initial reports indicate that the driver of the pickup truck, Jason Lee Perry, 43, of Osceola, was westbound on Ireland Road, attempting to make a left turn onto Beech Road, when he turned into the path of the motorcycle which was traveling northbound on Beech Road," authorities said.

Lee was uninjured and cooperated with authorities who say preliminary investigation does not show signs of impairment.

ORIGINAL: ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Police Department reports officers were called to a crash involving a truck and motorcycle on Beech Road between Ireland Road and Wildwood Drive in Mishawaka around 7 a.m., Friday.

Police say the motorcyclist is in serious condition and the crash has been turned over to the FACT unit for investigation.

Police say Beech Road is currently closed between Ireland Road south to Wildwood Drive, and will be closed until around 10 or 11 a.m., Friday.

Drivers are asked to avoid Beech Road in their morning commute.

There are no further details at this time.
