Motorcyclist injured in crash after allegedly fleeing police

ELKHART, Ind. -- A motorcyclist was injured when he crashed while allegedly fleeing from Elkhart Police early Saturday morning.

Around 3:15 a.m. Saturday, a deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a motorcycle near the intersection of CR 6 and CR7.

The driver of the motorcycle did not stop. Instead, the driver continued west on CR6 at speeds over 120 miles an hour, deputies said.

The driver then drove south on Ash Road at speeds over 100 miles per hour, deputies said.

When the driver slowed at the intersection of Ash Road and Old US20, the passenger fell off the motorcycle.

Deputies said the motorcycle continued, but crashed at the intersection of Ash Road and Old US 20 West.

The driver attempted to flee, but deputies arrested the driver after a brief struggle.

The 31-year-old passenger refused treatment at the scene.

The operator, a 47-year-old male, was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
