A motorcyclist was injured in a crash on SR 2 early Thursday morning, according to the La Porte County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were dispatched to the 7800 block of SR 2 at 3:15 a.m. for an unresponsive male in the roadway.

After responding to the scene, the deputy located a crashed motorcycle nearby, reports said.

The victim, 39-year-old William Hoggard, was driving the motorcycle when he failed to negotiate the turn and crashed into the lawn of a nearby residence, according to the sheriff's office.

Hoggard was transported to the hospital by helicopter for lower body injuries.

Deputies say alcohol was a contributing factor and toxicology tests are pending.
