Musician Darryl Buchanan is no stranger to South Bend.
After growing up in a family of musicians, Buchanan was discovered by legendary Motown recording artist Jr. Shotgun Walker. At the young age of 17, Buchanan stormed the music industry.
For more than 30 years, he performed all over the world with legends like The Temptations and Fred Wesley.
“I grew up in the era of great bands like Earth, Wind and Fire that played instruments,” said Buchanan. "Today, we've got technical electronic sounds, and I like to say, computers fix, but they never feel."
According to his website, he opened his own recording company called Plant Love Music Publishing. When he’s not producing music, he’s performing live with The Soul & Motown Allstars and the Darryl Buchanan Soul R&B Revue.
Buchanan still has deep connections to South Bend, as his family is still in the area. He also received a certificate of achievement from former South Bend Mayor Stephen Lueke for his 30 years in the industry.
On Saturday, Buchanan will serve as ABC 57’s industry insider and guest judge. The event runs from 10 AM to 5 PM at University Park Mall.
