MSP investigating dumpster explosion, fire

SHERWOOD, Mich. -- Michigan State Police are investigating an explosion and fire involving a dumpster in the 150 block of Oliverda Drive.

The explosion happened just before 10 p.m. Monday.

Police say the explosion was heard up to a half mile away and threw debris more than 60 feet from the dumpster.

The contents of the dumpster and the trash can caught fire. Firefighters from Sherwood Township Fire extinguished the fire.

Police said the incident appears to be intentional.

Samples are being sent to the forensic laboratory for testing.
