Multiple Berrien County roads still closed due to flooding

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- On Monday the Berrien County Road Department provided an update on roads that were closed over the weekend, and most of them are still closed due to water over the road.

The following five roads have been impacted:

  • Galien-Buchanan Road (Bertrand Township/Buchanan Township) is being closed to thru traffic between Boyle Lake Road and Wells Road.
  • Fedore Road (Buchanan Township) is being closed to thru traffic between Miller Road and Madron Lake Road.
  • Lakeside Road (Seasonal Road; New Buffalo Township/Three Oaks Township) is being closed to thru traffic between US12 and Forest Lawn Road/Maudlin Road.
  • W. Martin Road (Three Oaks Township) is being closed to thru traffic between Witt Road and Sittig Road/N. 400 East.
  • Buffalo Road (Galien Township) is being closed to thru traffic between Beaver Dam Road and Hampton Road

"The public is requested to seek alternative routes until water levels resume to normal and road is inspected," said Berrien County Road Department Communication Coordinator Adri Boone. "Road will be reopened to thru traffic when deemed safe for use."

Officials say if you encounter water over the road during regular office hours, to contact the road department directly at 269-925-1196, Monday-Thursday from 7 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. or on Fridays from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m.

If you come across a road hazard after hours, please report those directly to central dispatch at 269-983-3060 or dial 911 in an emergency.

Officials say not to report time sensitive hazards after hours or over the weekend to road department offices, as those messages will not be received until the office reopens, and that social media is not closely monitored over the weekends or after hours.
