Multiple fire departments respond to house fire on Front Street

DOWAGIAC, Mich. -- Multiple fire departments responded to a fire at a home in the 500 block of N. Front Street Sunday evening, according to Dowagiac Fire.

Firefighters responded to the scene just after 4 p.m. and found heavy fire on the first floor and heavy smoke throughout.

The residents were not home at the time of the fire.

Dowagiac, Wayne Township and Indian Lakes fire departments were on scene until approximately 5:30 p.m.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters said they contained the fire to the floor and room of origin with smoke damage throughout the second story. Crews believe the fire started in the kitchen on the first floor.

The fire remains under investigation.
