Multiple streets in South Bend close down for paving, crosswalk replacements
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The intersection of Michigan and Wayne Streets and a section of Portage Avenue will close down for paving and repairs. The closures went into effect on Monday.
Michigan and Wayne Streets will close down for the installation of traffic signals and removal and replacement of paving and crosswalks.
Cars will be detoured via Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard or Main Street to Western Avenue or Jefferson Boulevard.
The intersection will reopen on September 27.
Portage Avenue will close down from Kinyon Street to Queen Street for the repair of a water service line.
Southbound traffic on Portage Avenue will detour south on Wilber Street, then east on Elwood Avenue before rejoining Portage.
Northbound traffic on Portage will reverse the flow: Elwood Avenue to Wilber Street to Portage Avenue.
Portage Avenue is expected to reopen on September 19.
