SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Staffing shortages nationwide are impacting local businesses, forcing some to scramble to find employees and change their hours.
The Original Pancake House in South Bend has been open for 60 years, but like many other businesses in Michiana, are having to cut hours or completely close on some days.
“I come in uniform every day because I don’t know if I’m cooking, washing dishes, waiting tables, or busing tables,” said Nancy Wesler, owner of The Original Pancake House. “I’m just ready to do whatever needs to be done.”
Many of the staffing shortages have only gotten worse during the pandemic, but that has led to many job openings across almost all fields and industries.
The Original Pancake House will be closed July 9-10 and on Wednesdays due to the lack of employees.
They offer on the spot interviews while they are open from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
