Nearly 140 kids under the age of 15 drowned in 2012

Nearly 140 kids under the age of 15 drowned across the United States this year.

That is according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's "Pool Safely" campaign.

Those drownings happened between Memorial and Labor Day.

Another 170 children in the same age group needed first responders for accidents in pools and spas.

Of the top 10 states that suffered the highest number of drownings, Michigan comes in at number five with eight deaths.
