Neighbors react to after-prom shooting in Town of Pine
PINE, Ind. — Neighbors left stunned and confused after a deadly shooting Saturday night at an after-prom party for Michigan City students.
One male juvenile was killed, another 18-year-old woman was injured, and a male teen was shot as well at a home in the 1700 block of Liberty Avenue. All three were students at Michigan City Area Schools.
ABC57 confirmed with the mother of the male teen injured that they’ve gone through multiple surgeries in the past 48 hours. Their exact condition remains unknown.
No suspects have been arrested at this time, and the case is being handled by the Porter County Sheriff’s Office.
Neighbors on Willow Avenue told ABC57 they heard what sounded like automatic gunfire, with at least 30 shots and multiple different guns going off.
Both nearby residents our crew spoke with said they heard “bone-chilling screams” and one heard sirens and commotion for more than an hour after shots first rang out.
Neighbors also tell our crew that the home is often rented out to residents in other cities. The address isn’t currently listed on local property rental websites.
