New Buffalo Area Schools closed Friday due to threat

New Buffalo Area Schools were closed Friday after New Buffalo Police received information from the FBI in regards to a possible threat to the high school. The FBI said there were specific social media posts that appear to be detailed threats against students and school activities.

Superintendent Dr. Jeff Leslie said they learned of the threat at 6:38 a.m. and attempted to do a 2 hour delay for school.

Dr. Leslie said it took so long for the 2 dogs to sweep the school, they decided to shut down for the day.

The all clear was given around 10:15 a.m.

The FBI has met with and interviewed the student who made the threat.
