New casino ready to open in Hartford

HARTFORD, Mich -- Jackpot!  A new casino is ready to open in Hartford!

Monday, the Pokagon Tribe of Potawatomi Indians cut the ribbon on the new Four Winds Casino.  It looks and feels about the same as the one in New Buffalo, but it is one-fifth the size.

Construction has been in the works all summer.

The new casino employs about 400 people, 100 of which are tribal members.

"We have a large number of tribal citizens that live here. A large number of that group is looking for work,” said Matthew Wesaw, a Tribal Chairman of the Pokagon Indians.

Just like New Buffalo about one-percent of revenue will go to the tribe’s fund, which supports local projects.  The casino's grand opening is tomorrow at noon.
