New grocery delivery launches in South Bend area
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -
Going to the grocery store can often be a hassle, but what if you could have your list of items delivered right to your door?
A new grocery delivery service launching in the area Tuesday is doing just that.
This service is already in cities across the nation, it’s now branching out to fifteen zip codes in our area.
It’s called Instacart, and you won’t need the cart. All you need is a computer or smartphone.
To use Instacart, customers go online or use the Instacart app, and order from a nearby store.
South Bend area residents are now able to order from Costco, CVS, Kroger, Meijer and Petco. They can also choose when items will be dropped off, from one hour to seven days.
A shopper with Instacart will shop for and deliver the needed items right to customer’s doorsteps.
Instacart’s Senior Regional Director Dave Osborne says over the past year they have seen incredible demand in the South Bend area.
“Expansion into South Bend gives us an opportunity to expand service in the Indiana and Michigan markets,” said Osborne. “We’re also excited to build a world class shopper community, where we can offer fun and flexible income earning opportunities for our shoppers, who ultimately deliver this amazing service to the community.”
The company says the new delivery area will cover more than 98,000 residents in the area, creating a need for more than 100 new shoppers.
Shoppers for Instacart are paid weekly. They apply online and create their own hours.
As for buyers, Instacart charges a delivery fee of $5.99 for every order costing more than $35.
The company also offers an Express membership with no delivery fee for orders more than $35. That costs $14.99 a month or $149 a year.
First time users can also enter the code HISOUTHBEND at checkout to get $25 off an order of $35 or more, plus a free first time delivery.
Service areas include: South Bend, Mishawaka, Granger, Tamarack Grange, Georgetown, Roseland, Clay Township, Gulivoire Park, Centre Township, Woodland, Lydick, Ardmore, Notre Dame, Westfield and Osceola.
