STEVENSVILLE, Mich.—A new ice cream and smoothie shop celebrated its grand opening on Tuesday in southwest Michigan.

Y Not Ice Cream & Smoothies has officially opened its doors at 5651 Cleveland Avenue.

The shop's co-owners and Berrien County natives, Doni Sites and Katherine Meek, have been friends for over 20 years.

Meek wanted to provide a smoothie option for members of the gym next door, which she also owns. Sites has always wanted to open an ice cream shop, so Meek said the decision to team up was an easy one.

Smoothies on the menu were named with a little local inspiration, like “Silver Beach Sunset Orange Dreamsicle,” “The Grand Mere” and “The Pure Michigan Blueberry Muffin.”

The shop sells Hershey's ice cream and currently offers about 24 flavors. Ice cream toppings are also available, including hot fudge, caramel, peanut butter and more.

Meek said one of the menu items she's most excited about is the ice cream flight, which allows a customer to select four ice cream flavors to try.

The shop also offers shakes and malts, waffle cones and slushies.

A special donut ice cream sandwich that the shop created with Red Coach Donuts will be available on the weekends, according to Meek.

The shop’s hours will be Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 8 p.m.
